Accommodation Options
Comfortable and pleasant accommodations are an important part of every immersion Spanish course. Therefore we provide a range of accommodation options so you can choose the one you are most comfortable with while you concentrate fully on learning Spanish:
- Family Homestay: The traditional accommodation option for students participating in an immersion Spanish course. You'll live in the home of a Guatemalan family and take part in their daily lives, giving you valuable insights into the culture and customs of Guatemala and the way of life of average Guatemalans. Most important, though, is that you'll have plenty of opportunity to practice your Spanish in realistic everyday situations.
- Guesthouse: The rooms in the guesthouses we work with are very similar to those our host families provide. They come without meals, but you'll have access to a kitchen where you can cook yourself if you are so inclined. The main difference, though, is that there is no family you can chat and practice your Spanish with.
- Hotels: Primarily an option for students who are looking for more upscale accommodations than what a host family or guesthouse can provide. There are hotels for all tastes and budgets in Antigua Guatemala, up to and including five-star hotels for several hundred dollars a night.
- Apartments and Houses: Mainly an option for students who want to be completely independent. While an apartment will give you privacy and independence, you'll also have little contact with the local population, limiting your opportunities to chat with native Spanish speakers and learn about the culture and customs of Latin America.
The vast majority of Spanish students, approximately 80-85 percent, participate in the homestay program and are generally very happy with the host families we place them with. Many students have become friends with their hosts and stay in touch long after they've returned to their home country.
We believe that a family homestay is in fact your best option, but if you feel you'd be more comfortable in a guesthouse, hotel or apartment, we'll be happy to make the arrangements for you and do our best to provide the kind of accommodation you are looking for.
