What Our Students Say ...

Andrew

Ixchel was very welcoming and the perfect way to settle into Antigua. Although two weeks is too short, it has been a great introduction to Spanish. I would recommend Ixchel to anyone wanting to learn Spanish, explore Antigua and learn about Guatemalan culture. I can't wait to come back!

Carrie

I had a very good experience at Ixchel Spanish School. My teacher Isabel was excellent! I only attended for 2 weeks, but I learned enough to have simple conversations in Spanish and to ask common questions and to understand the answers. The program was flexible but well organized. I appreciated the focus on grammar and vocabulary.

Accommodation Options for Spanish Students in Antigua Guatemala:

Apartments and Houses

Most students who participate in an immersion Spanish course choose a family homestay and live with a local family while they are in Antigua Guatemala. We do realize, though, that living in a stranger's home is not for everyone and also offer other accommodation options.

Renting an apartment or a house for the duration of your stay in Antigua will give you the most flexibility and independence. On the downside, you'll have less contact with other people and consequently less opportunity to practice your Spanish.

Antigua Guatemala is well prepared for international visitors and there are many apartments and houses for rent year round. Finding one that suits your taste and budget is usually not a problem. However, during the high season (Christmas - New Year, Easter week, June thru August) there is much demand for apartments and houses and finding the right place will definitely be easier if you make your arrangements well in advance.

Apartments and houses in Antigua Guatemala are fairly expensive compared with the rest of the country. Antigua is a popular destination not only among short-term travelers but also attracts many expats and wealthy Guatemalans. Real estate prices have gone through the roof in recent years and that has also driven up the rents.

For a reasonably nice and comfortable apartment — by North American or European standards — you'll need to budget at least US$400 a month. More luxurious places, particularly those in gated communities, can cost well over US$1000 a month.

If you think that an apartment would be the best choice for you, we'll be happy to help you find the right place. We can also make a reservation on your behalf, but advance payments or deposits, if required to secure your reservation, will be your responsibility.
