Student Comments

I enjoyed my classes, my teacher, the people and the afternoon activities very much. It was a great experience. I want to come back soon to learn more Spanish and to stay longer.

Spanish Immersion Courses in Antigua Guatemala:

Extracurricular Activities

To really master the Spanish language, understanding the grammar and memorizing vocabulary is indispensable, but it is not enough. What really counts is practicing your skills in realistic everyday situations.

Therefore we organize a great variety of activities to complement our Spanish courses and homestay program, so that every student will find something of interest:

  • Salsa and Merengue classes
  • bicycle tours of Antigua and the surrounding villages
  • visits to coffee and macadamia plantations
  • football and basketball games
  • participation in reforestation programs
  • discussion about the culture
  • learning how to cook typical food
  • campfires
  • Spanish movies
  • Mayan ceremonies
  • occasional parties
  • eco-tours (fishing, walking and swimming in the mountains)

These activities are very popular with our students, not only because they give them additional opportunity to practice their Spanish, but also because they are interesting and fun, allow them to experience the Latin American customs and culture first-hand and are a great way to socialize with other students as well as the Ixchel team.

The above activities usually take place in the afternoon or the evening. Most of them are free, others cost just a few dollars for transportation and/or entrance fees.

Salsa classes

Salsa classes are among the most popular activities. They are free and take place every week.

Football match

Football and basketball games are also a favorite with our students.

Pacaya volcano

Climbing the Pacaya volcano, one of three active volcanoes in Guatemala, is a thrill for many students.
