Studying at Ixchel Spanish School was all in all such a wonderful experience. Situated in Antigua, the school has endless bars and restaurants close by with a variety of music and rood set in the beautiful colonial town.

We knew zero Spanish when we started school. Thanks to a very patient teacher we were able to understand and communicate in Spanish. We also enjoyed being placed with a family and believe this immersion greatly helped improve our Spanish learning curve. Thanks to the staff for running a great school!

I've enjoyed studying here very much and learned a lot of Spanish in just over a week. If we come back to Antigua, we hope to study here again.

Frequently Asked Questions:

The Ixchel Spanish School

How long has the Ixchel Spanish School been in business?

The Ixchel Spanish School was founded in 1999. In just a few years we've become one of the leading Spanish schools in Antigua Guatemala due to the quality of our Spanish courses, our innovative teaching techniques, and our professional organization.

Is Ixchel officially registered with the Ministry of Education and with INGUAT?

Yes, the school is registered with the Guatemalan Ministry of Education (registration number 125-2002) and with INGUAT (registration number 640-2002-D).

Ixchel is also accredited by the Universidad Rural de Guatemala, a private university in Guatemala City. Our cooperation with this university allows us to offer Spanish courses with college/university credits.

Where is the Ixchel Spanish School located? Are you close to the city center?

Our building is located on 7a Calle Poniente #15, between 5a Avenida and 6a Avenida Sur. Antigua's Central Park is only two city blocks away and just about any place of interest in Antigua is within easy walking distance.

How can I pay for my course and other services you provide? Do you accept credit cards?

You can pay with US$, travelers checks or Guatemalan Quetzals. At this time, we're not equipped to accept credit cards, but there are a number of ATMs around town where you can get Quetzals with international credit cards.

I sent you a message a week ago and still haven't received a reply. What's up?

We reply to almost all messages within 24 hours. If you still haven't heard from us after two or three days (not counting Sundays and holidays), you can assume that something went wrong — either with your message or with our reply. The most common problems are:

  • You used the contact or reservation form on our website and misspelled your email address. In this case, our reply bounced or landed in someone else's mailbox.
  • You or your ISP are using an email filter (a.k.a. spam filter) and our reply was erroneously identified as spam and deleted. To receive our reply, you'll need to make sure you can receive email from the domain ixchelschool.com.

If you suspect that something like that has happened, please send your message again. We'll be most happy to answer any questions you may have.
