What Our Students Say ...

Andrew

Ixchel was very welcoming and the perfect way to settle into Antigua. Although two weeks is too short, it has been a great introduction to Spanish. I would recommend Ixchel to anyone wanting to learn Spanish, explore Antigua and learn about Guatemalan culture. I can't wait to come back!

Carrie

I had a very good experience at Ixchel Spanish School. My teacher Isabel was excellent! I only attended for 2 weeks, but I learned enough to have simple conversations in Spanish and to ask common questions and to understand the answers. The program was flexible but well organized. I appreciated the focus on grammar and vocabulary.

Transportation from Guatemala City to Antigua

Airport Transfer

Most visitors flying to Guatemala from North America, Europe or other parts of the world arrive at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City. La Aurora is only about 45 km (30 miles) from Antigua and there are several ways to get here:

Ixchel's Airport Pickup Service

Ixchel's pickup service is the easiest, fastest and most reliable way to get from the airport in Guatemala City to Antigua. Our driver can meet you at the airport anytime, day or night, and take you directly to the school or wherever you'll be staying in Antigua.

Taking a Taxi

Taxis are usually available in front of the airport, but you may have to stand in line for a while, especially if you are among the last passengers to go through immigration and customs and several dozen others get in line ahead of you. Few taxis are metered in Guatemala and you'll need to negotiate the price of the trip with the driver before you get in. Depending on your negotiating skills, taxis are about 20 to 50 percent more expensive than our pickup service.

Taking a Minibus

During daytime hours, minibuses that have dropped off passengers at the airport are often available for the trip back to Antigua, but they are not a dependable option, especially if you arrive early in the morning or late at night. Minibuses are slightly cheaper than our pickup service, but they have no fixed schedules; they leave when they are full.

Public Transportation

Definitely not for the faint of heart! While public buses are unbeatably cheap, they are also very slow and uncomfortable. Don't take public buses if you arrive after dark or carry a lot of luggage, and watch your belongings carefully.

Given these options, we are convinced that our airport pickup service is your best bet. The vehicles we use are comfortable, well maintained and fully insured. Our drivers are experienced, courteous and guaranteed on time.

We monitor the flights our students come in on and will be aware of any delays. In that case, we will inform the driver of the delay and he will wait for you - or return later in case of a substantial delay.

All you need to do to book your airport pickup is to fill in your flight details on the registration form. We will take care of the rest and you can travel assured that you won't get stranded at the airport.

Our airport transfer service can be booked by all travelers, irrespective of whether or not you are enrolled in the school. Please see the price list for current rates.
