Spanish Immersion Courses in Antigua Guatemala:Student Guest HouseTraditionally, a family homestay is an integral part of every Spanish immersion course and most of our students choose this option to increase their exposure to native Spanish speakers. Not everyone is comfortable living in the house of a local family, however, and we will be happy to provide other accommodations if you feel they would suit you better than a homestay. There is no shortage of hotels in Antigua, and we also have a guest house for our students. The rooms in the guest house are very similar to the ones our host families provide, but they come without meals. Instead, you can use the kitchen to cook your own meals if you are so inclined. While staying at a guest house will give you more privacy and make you independent of the host families' fixed meal times, you will also have less opportunity to practice your Spanish with native speakers. In our experience, most students in the guest house speak English or their native languages when they chat with each other, not Spanish. The guest house is located in a nice residential area in the northern part of town. The walk to the school takes about 10 minutes and most other places of interest in Antigua are within easy walking distance too. The guest house is quite popular with our students and sometimes booked out several weeks in advance, especially during the high season (Christmas - New Year, Easter week, and June thru August). If you'd like to stay at the guest house, we recommend that you sign up as soon as your travel plans firm up. |
