Antigua Guatemala

Antigua Guatemala is located in the Central Highlands at the foot of the extinct Agua volcano. 1,530 m (5,000 ft) above sea level, Antigua enjoys a pleasant climate year-round.

From almost every spot in Antigua you'll have a great view of the surrounding mountains and volcanoes.

The Central Park is the heart of Antigua's historic center. During the colonial period, a town's most important buildings were constructed around the park.

The Central Park boasts a total of five fountains, a smaller one on each corner and the famous, much larger fountain of Las Sirenas at the center.

The Central Park is a meeting place for Guatemalans and foreigners alike. From early in the morning till late at night, there are always people in the park you can practice your Spanish with.

Indigenous vendors come to the park in droves to sell their wares, particularly typical fabrics and everything that can be made of them.

The La Merced church with its baroque facade and the Arch of Santa Catalina are prime examples of the colonial architectural style.
