Antigua Guatemala

Antigua in the Central Highlands of Guatemala

Antigua is located in the Central Highlands of Guatemala at 1,530 m (5,000 ft) above sea level. Surrounded by mountains and three volcanoes, you'll have a great view from just about any point in Antigua.

The altitude tempers the intensity of the tropical sun, so Antigua's climate is nearly perfect year-round. Extreme temperatures are virtually unknown — it neither gets as hot and humid as in the tropical lowlands nor as cold as in the Western Highlands around Quetzaltenango.

The photo above shows Antigua with the Agua Volcano in the background. It was taken from the Cerro de la Cruz ("The Hill of the Cross"), a small hill just north of Antigua.
