The Cathedral

The Cathedral in Antigua Guatemala

Antigua's Cathedral was the religious center of Central America for more than two centuries. The Cathedral and the adjoining Archbishop's Palace occupied the entire city block east of the Central Park.

The Cathedral was almost entirely destroyed by the earthquake of 1773. After the capital was moved to Guatemala City, only a small part was restored to serve as parish church.
