Public Bus ("Chicken Bus")

Many buses in Guatemala, lovingly called "chicken buses" by most foreigners, are old school buses from North America. Their service is slow and uncomfortable, but they can get you to the remotest of villages. Between the larger cities there's also first-class service using modern Pullman buses.

Most foreigners traveling in Guatemala prefer the tourist minibuses, which are operated by many travel agencies and connect the major tourist hotspots directly, without the need for changing buses on the way.
