Family Homestay in Antigua Guatemala

Hotels, guest houses, apartments ... There's certainly no shortage of accommodations for Spanish students in Antigua Guatemala. We recommend, though, that you stay with a local host family as a homestay is the ideal complement to a Spanish immersion course and will give you the most opportunity to practice your Spanish with native speakers in real-life situations.

Our host families are carefully selected so you'll have a comfortable place to stay, tasty meals and plenty of opportunity to participate in the everyday life of a typical Guatemalan family and learn about the customs and culture of Latin America.

The host families are very open-minded and enjoy sharing their homes with foreign students. Some families have children, others don't — if you tell us about your preferences when you sign up, we'll be happy to place you with a host family you'll be comfortable with.

Host families in Antigua Guatemala are middle class by local standards. Their houses are not luxurious, but they are nice, clean and comfortable. Most houses are built in the typical colonial style with rooms situated around a central patio.

Single and double rooms are available, so couples who want to stay together can share a room. Unlike other schools in Antigua we do not expect our students to share a double room with a stranger, though, and will arrange a single room for you unless you instruct us otherwise.

The host families provide breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday thru Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturdays. At least one family member is present during each meal so you can chat with them and practice your Spanish.
