What Our Students Say ...

Andrew

Ixchel was very welcoming and the perfect way to settle into Antigua. Although two weeks is too short, it has been a great introduction to Spanish. I would recommend Ixchel to anyone wanting to learn Spanish, explore Antigua and learn about Guatemalan culture. I can't wait to come back!

Carrie

I had a very good experience at Ixchel Spanish School. My teacher Isabel was excellent! I only attended for 2 weeks, but I learned enough to have simple conversations in Spanish and to ask common questions and to understand the answers. The program was flexible but well organized. I appreciated the focus on grammar and vocabulary.

Immersion Spanish Courses at Ixchel Spanish School:

Spanish for Volunteers

Many Spanish students volunteer their skills and their time to help Guatemala's poor and disadvantaged. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and make a big difference to those who do not have the resources to improve their own economic and social situation.

While there is volunteer work available where volunteers need little or no knowledge of the Spanish language, the majority of positions require communication with the local population and thus at least an intermediate level of Spanish.

To help volunteers prepare for their work in Guatemala or other Latin American countries, we have designed a special course, Spanish for Volunteers, that includes:

Since volunteers typically work in a wide range of different position — from social work to health care, from education to environmental protection — Spanish for Volunteers has a very flexible structure. The course will focus on the work you will be doing and the vocabulary you will need.

For instance, if you plan to do volunteer work in health care, your course will focus on health care; if you will work in environmental protection, your course will focus on environmental protection and related areas. In any case, we will make sure you will be well prepared for the kind of volunteer work you'll be doing.

Spanish for Volunteers is primarily aimed at intermediate and advanced students. Course duration is typically two weeks (40-50 hours of class), but can be shortened or extended depending on how much time you have available and how intensively you want to prepare for your volunteer work.

Sign up for Spanish for Volunteers and make your volunteer work experience even more successful and rewarding!
