Traditionally, a family homestay is an integral part of every Spanish immersion course and most of our students choose this option to increase their exposure to native Spanish speakers. Not everyone is comfortable living in the home of a local family, however, and we can also arrange a room right here at the school for you.
The rooms are quite similar to the ones our host families provide, but they come without meals. However, there are optional meal plans available for purchase. All rooms at the school have private bathroom and cable TV, and there is wi-fi throughout the building.
While staying at the school will give you more privacy and make you independent of the host families' meal times, you will also have less opportunity to practice your Spanish with native speakers. In our experience, most students at a guest house speak English or their native language when they chat with each other, not Spanish.
In case all rooms at the school are booked out, we can arrange a room at a nearby guest house for you. The guest houses we work with are located in nice and safe residential areas within a few city blocks from the school, about five to ten minutes on foot.
We have several rooms for students right inside of the school. All of the rooms have private bathroom and cable TV, and wi-fi is available throughout the building.
From the roof terrace you'll have a great view all over Antigua and the surrounding mountains and volcanoes.
Rooms at the school can be booked with or without meals. The optional meal plan includes breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. There is also a fully equipped kitchen that you can use to prepare your own meals.
The school is located in a residential area only a few blocks from the Central Park, approximately five minutes on foot. Most places of interest in town are within easy walking distance.
Please note: The rooms in the school are sometimes booked out several weeks in advance, particularly during the high season (around Easter and June through August). Please sign up early if you want one of them.
The Ixchel Spanish School in Antigua is a great place to learn Spanish. The school is about five minutes away from the plaza.
Every morning at 8 a.m. my classes with Hellen started just in front of my room! My room was huge, two beds, television, big bathroom and very clean. The school also has two terraces with great view of the three volcanoes by which Antigua is surrounded.
A great place!

I have been studying at Ixchel Spanish School for five weeks. It is a professional and well managed school. The staff is friendly and you can rely on them. I really appreciate my lessons and I have learned a lot. Activities organized for the afternoon were very interesting too.
The atmosphere in the school is very friendly, I met a lot of other students that were studying at this school like me. My weeks at Ixchel were definitely positive, I'd suggest to study here if you want to learn Spanish, know Antigua and meet new friends.
