The knowledge and experience of your teacher is of utmost importance for the success of your studies. Only a well trained and motivated teacher will ensure that you learn Spanish in an efficient manner and progress rapidly, making the best use of your valuable vacation time.
Ixchel's teachers fit the bill! We select our teachers very carefully to make sure they meet our high quality standards.
All our teachers are native Spanish speakers. They have many years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language to foreign students. Some of the teachers have been with Ixchel since the school was founded in 1999. They receive continuous training so they are familiar with the latest teaching methods and materials.
Teaching Spanish is more than just a job for our teachers. They take an active interest in your progress and adapt the lessons to meet your needs, interests and learning style.
Over the years we've brought together a great team that we are very proud of. We all work hard to make your stay at Ixchel an enjoyable, hassle-free and unforgettable experience!
Alvaro began his professional career as a Spanish teacher in the early 1990s. He soon realized that the language programs even at the best schools had many deficiencies and started to look for ways to improve them.
When he met a group of teachers from Spain, Alvaro learned about innovative and more efficient teaching techniques. He developed his own Spanish program from scratch and finally founded Ixchel Spanish School in 1999.
Ixchel quickly established itself as one of the best Spanish schools in Guatemala. Nonetheless Alvaro keeps evaluating new teaching methods and improving the school's programs to provide the best possible experience for our students.

I absolutely enjoyed my time at Ixchel! The teachers and staff are just so welcoming, and it really does feel like a second home in Antigua!
I learned so much in these 3 weeks and I had a great time with Ana Lucia, she's amazing!
The best part of the day was the break though, it's so nice to talk with everybody, hang out in the cafeteria and make new friends! Great people, great school!
I had the best experience a girl could ask for, especially for the first time I've been out of the country alone. Everyone at the school, students and teachers alike, are so helpful with anything you need.
I loved my teacher Silvia, she and I got along great. She was very patient with me. My homestay family was perfect. They too were very accommodating with whatever you need.
I want to come back in the summer and do it all once again.
