We don’t just provide Spanish classes and accommodations. My experience at Ixchel was fantastic. I took 4 weeks of classes 4 hours per day and lived at the school. My teacher María was attentive, funny, engaging and patient with me. She is a truly excellent teacher. My overall vocabulary and grammar improved a lot and I gained a lot of confidence in my Spanish abilities. I also learned many helpful medical terms which will come in handy in my profession as a nurse. The school has fun activities available including cooking classes, salsa classes, Antigua tours, trips to the beach and more. The host family is warm, welcoming and incredibly kind. The food offered was excellent, especially the traditional Guatemalan dishes I got to try! Thank you!

Jeff D'Avy2023-08-28Highly recommend this school! We studied at Ixchel for one week with my two kids, ages 11 and 8, and we all had an unforgettable experience. The kids have been learning Spanish from a young age, so this experience was to provide cultural enrichment and further develop their fluency. We got everything from this school that we had hoped for! From the pre-trip planning to the personalized attention in classes, onsite stay, meals, activity organization and airport transfers - the school is very well-run and high quality. When we began researching Spanish schools I was given prompt attention by Belen for all of my questions. They communicated very quickly through Whatsapp and email and provided thoughtful, reassuring responses. Our flight arrived after 7:00PM. The airport transfers were easy with a private driver waiting with a sign. The school was always on standby for any potential difficulties. We stayed in a private 1 bedroom /bathroom apartment located within the school, which also had a small kitchen and living area. It was very convenient to live onsite and have meals ready before and after classes. We sat with other students and sometimes staff during mealtimes where Spanish was often spoken. The meals that were cooked by Lourdes and her daughters were delicious and filling, and with quite a few vegetarian options. My kids had a wonderful experience with their teacher, Lu. She really had a special way with them, and was sweet and nurturing in her demeanor. They took 37 hours of classes in 8 days. She bonded with them so much that it was really difficult for us to leave in the end. She played games with them, and broke up the morning with movement activities. She took them for ice cream and to the fruit market. She was a perfect fit for them. I also took Spanish lessons every morning with Aurora. My Spanish is limited and basic. Aurora was so kind and patient with me, always allowing me the time to complete my thoughts and sentences. She spoke to me slowly and she was easy to understand. At the end of our week, I had made a lot of progress in basic conversation. We were also pleased with Carla's coordination of classes, activities, and her level of communication. All the activities were led by a staff member from the school and immersive in culture and language. The kids especially enjoyed the coffee and macadamia nut tour. The school itself is in a very convenient location. Antigua is a beautiful city and easily accessible/walkable to everything that the city has to offer.
James Kerr2023-08-15I have just finished studying at Ixchel for a week and a half and I had the best time. They are so flexible, allowing me to start on a Thursday as well as having classes on the weekends, they also are very happy to make last minute changes to classes should they be needed. I had a wonderful time with my teachers Luis and Angelica (as well as Eric for one lesson). The teachers are all so friendly and really do care about improving your Spanish language skills through making lessons engaging and fun, adjusting classes based on whatever level of Spanish you have. I stayed in the home stay at the school which was so convenient and a great way to meet other people from the school. It was lovely staying with Lourdes and her family, they are so friendly and the food is amazing!!!! I look forward to returning at some point in the future - thank you!!

Ixchel granted me that. Just by spending a week I learned a lot and was able to carry my skill in Spanish to the next level. Shireen Ellis2023-08-03Update 8/3/2023 I just finished my third time at Ixchel School. I came back for a three week refresher course and continuation of my study of verb tenses in Spanish. Once again, I enjoyed the school, my private room and bath, and the amazing food and comradery around the dining table with other students, teachers, and staff. I enjoyed reconnecting with my teacher, Aura, and continuing my growth as a spanish language speaker with her. Lourdes and her staff continue to create a welcoming dining experience. The office staff were accommodating and helpful. Muchas gracias por todo. 12/4/2022 Today, I finished three months of spanish classes at Ixchel Spanish School in Antigua! I have learned so much and have enjoyed my experience here at Ixchel, with my teacher Aura and the other staff members. My host family at the school, Lourdes and her daughters, have created wonderful food, even accommodating my vegetarian diet. Our conversations around the dining room table helped to immerse the students in the wonderful culture of Guatemala! I also enjoyed the various cultural outings and assistance with visits to other parts of Guatemala through the office. I highly recommend Ixchel Spanish School and the experience of learning and growing with other students!
Owen Kearns2023-07-31I signed up for the 15 hours of one to one lessons. Having previously studied Spanish a number of years ago I wasn't sure where my knowledge of the language was at but thankfully Karla helped with me a quick written test. This helped Mollie, my tutor and I to establish where we should start from. I really enjoyed my time here and was made to feel part of the family. My spanish has improved significantly in a short space of time and I only wished I could stay longer. Upon speaking to some friends who attended other schools the content and materials given to me at ixchel seemed to be of a higher quality. I would therefore highly recommend joining a class at Ixchel.
Jane Montealegre2023-07-28I have nothing but great things to say about Ixchel Spanish School! We had an amazing two weeks of Spanish classes for my niece and daughters, ages 5, 8, and 10. The oldest 2 go to a Bilingual school in the U.S. and we put them in a class together at Ixchel. Their Spanish vocabulary and conversational skills improved dramatically (yesterday, I overhead them talking to a person in Spanish and was amazed!). The youngest was in a 1:1 class and also had dramatic improvements in her Spanish vocabulary. Beyond the teachers being amazing, the school has a fun mix of activities that kept the kids excited about going back every day. They had a fieldtrip to the central park, to the Antigua Fair, to the market, and today to Cerro De La Cruz. They also came home with fun crafts that they worked on at the school. The kids loved sitting in the outside courtyard at the cafe style tables, under a beautiful tree. En fin, nothing but great things to say! We can't wait to come back!

They have very experienced teachers for advanced levels. I did some preparation for the Dele c1 exam. My teacher, Aura, was great and very knowledgeable about the material. I hope to come back again!
